Murrumbidgee River Flight

For those seeking a broader view of city and countryside this flight of 30 minutes and over 70 kilometres is the ideal choice. It tracks from the airport over Lake Burley Griffin  past the iconic architecture of the National Capital including the High Court, National Gallery, Parliament House, the National Museum, and Telstra Tower then along the southern edge of Belconnen and Lake Ginninderra.

From there we head west to the junction of the mighty Murrumbidgee (Australia’s second longest river at 1,575 Kms) and Molonglo Rivers at Coppins Crossing where we turn south for the Cotter Dam, past Mt Stromlo (home to the EOS laser satellite ranging system), and Mount Taylor. Our track then takes us via Tuggeranong over the Woden Valley to Mount Mugga where we make our final turn for the airport.

Many are surprised by the beauty of the countryside to the west of Canberra as seen from the air. This flight gives newcomers to Canberra an excellent appreciation of the broader layout of the ACT.
